Seattle Salsa Congress

This past Thanksgiving weekend Shin and I drove up to Seattle for a weekend full of workshops, shows, and social dancing. This was the first annual Seattle Salsa Congress, promoted by the Bravo family in the Seattle salsa scene. First a little background. Wasn’t there just a congress in the NW? See, the salsa community in Seattle doesn’t like to work together so instead of having one great big congress we got to have two small congresses. Actually, I don’t think this is a bad thing at all. For the dancer this is a good thing assuming they have money to spend. However, for the promoters this was probably a bad move. After examining the attendance at the Seattle and NW Salsa Congresses, I highly doubt either of them made money.

Putting all the politics aside, I would have to say that I had a good time at this event. The shows were on a really small stage and I often wondered if someone was going to fall off. We were treated from some of the best dance companies in the USA with Salsamania and Santo Rico both attending. They both had great performances, leaving the crowd chanting for more. After the shows Shin and I danced the night away with people local to the area and from the various dance companies. I got to dance with two of the girls in Santo Rico. They were so good. I hope the didn’t think I sucked to bad .

After an exhausting two days we headed home on Sunday full of new knowledge and aching feet. I can’t wait to practice and perfect what we learned. Off to the studio I go!
